Based in Los Angeles, California, Mads’ artwork explores the intersection of embodiment, femininity, and autonomy through the use of mixed media. Working largely in pastels, charcoal, acrylics, and digitally, Mads uses abstraction and dissection as a catalyst to bring the beautiful and the abject together. Inspired heavily by her (euphoric and dystopian) experience as a runway model, Mads desires to question and pick at the boundaries of what is beautiful and what is feminine. Continually struck by what we feel is real and why, what real bodies are and what real beauty might be, Mads’ work aims to look at the world differently—sometimes at a slant, sometimes playfully, and often, although abstract, deeply honest.
