Mads Cook is an emerging artist based in Los Angeles. Working in acrylic, oil pastel, charcoal and graphite, Cook’s work renders the body in abstraction. Drawing on years spent in the modeling industry, Cook’s work interrogates the discomfort inherent in embodiment. Using abstraction and layered mediums to explore voyeurism, objectification, and distortion, Cook explores what beauty can be found in deconstruction. What does it mean to inhabit a body and perform it simultaneously? Cook’s work exists at the edge of that tension.
